Those Giddy Exciting Heights – The Stratosphere Hotel and Casino

The Stratosphere Las Vegas Hotel and Casino has become a Las Vegas landmark and its uppermost spire is visible from nearly anywhere in the valley. But with the tallest thrill rides in the country, a bevy of exceptional dining options and luxurious accommodations, the 1,149-feet tower is just the tip of the iceberg.

The Stratosphere Las Vegas Hotel and Casino takes fun and excitement to new heights with the world's most insane thrill rides. More than 100 stories above the ground, adrenaline junkies can take on the Big Shot, X-Scream and Insanity.

The resort boasts one of the largest gaming floors at 80,000 square feet. At least 50 table games and more than 1,500 of the most popular slot and video poker machines contribute to the nonstop action found in the casino. Casino games include Blackjack, 10X Odds on craps, Poker, Pai Gow Poker, Roulette, Slots, mini Baccarat, Megabucks, and Super Megabucks. There is also a very classy poker room.

Yes, a 120-seat race and sports book, equipped with 33 televisions and 24 big screens.

The staff at this Casino is as nice and professional as any gambler could hope for, letting you get into the swing of the casino quickly and easily. The Stratosphere has inherited some unusual variations on casino games from its Vegas World predecessor, such as "crapless craps" and "double-exposure blackjack", which came with a number of twists. For example, the variation on blackjack involved the dealers showing both of their cards, which appeared to greatly favor the player. However the rules also were changed that the house wins in the event of a push, which meant that statistically the game favored the casino more than in normal blackjack. This type of blackjack is popular in Atlantic City, but rarely seen in Las Vegas.

So come rise to the Stratosphere!

Let the Fun Come Alive: Circus Circus

But the live gaming action is located in three full-size casinos, surrounded by the 40,000-sq.-foot shopping promenade and provides more adult fun than you can imagine. This venerable resort is a unique, family-oriented gaming resort with a 100,000-square-foot casino where circus acrobats and trapeze artists perform overhead. Strolling magicians, jugglers and mimes add to the excitement. The accommodations include the 810-room Circus Manor, which offers a swimming pool and in-room kitchenettes. The promenade-level Adventuredome amusement park houses thrill rides, midway games, state-of-the-art video games, a virtual reality zone, party rooms and more.

But you should not confuse this with a theme-park hotel. All the circus fun is still built around a busy casino. The midway level features dozens of carnival games, a large arcade (more than 300 video and pinball games), trick mirrors, and ongoing circus acts under the big top from 11am to midnight daily. The world's largest permanent circus, it features renowned trapeze artists, stunt cyclists, jugglers, magicians, acrobats, and high-wire daredevils. Spectators can view the action from much of the midway or get up close and comfy on benches in the performance arena. The thousands of rooms here occupy sufficient acreage to warrant a free Disney World-style aerial shuttle (another kid pleaser) and minibuses connecting its many components. It has its own 24-hour convenience store, swimming pools, saunas, whirlpools, kiddie's playground, fenced pet runs, video-game arcade, community room, and Wi-Fi. For gorging, there's always the Circus Circus Buffet.

Circus Circus offers Las Vegas gambling ramped up a notch with super-satisfying slots, from penny to $25 machines. The Main Casino features more than 1,500 slot and video machines in all denominations and includes MegaBucks™, Wheel of Fortune and 97.4% Dollar Slots, as well as Penny Poker and Video. The Waves of Excitement - The MGM Grand Macau

The casino resort in Macau, which uses the MGM Grand Macau name, is the third largest American casino company behind the Bellagio and Mirage in Vegas.  MGM Mirage made a joint deal with Pansy Ho Chiu-king, the daughter of Stanley Ho, whose company was controlling Macau gambling up to now.

The MGM Grand Macau hotel tower is a unique structure located on a prime waterfront site in Macau's central Nam Van gaming district. The Macau MGM is placed in the neighborhood of the planned Wynn Macau and the Lisboa Hotel and Casino, an area likely to become the first casino "strip" of Macau.

Separated into three distinct horizontal segments as it rises, the exterior walls curve rhythmically, like waves in the ocean. The Macau MGM features a signature atrium, which is the focus of the resort. The 600-room MGM Macau resort hotel rises 28-floors into the sky and, as the shimmering glass of the building reflects the South China Sea, the shape of the building itself reflects the rolling swell of the ocean surf.

The casino at MGM Macau has the potential to make the MGM Grand Macau the leading resort in Macau.  Within the MGM Macau, there's a 222,000 square foot split-level casino, with 300 table games and 1,000 slot machines. The property also includes a 1,500-seat theater, a 5,500-square foot nightclub, 13,500 square feet of meeting and convertible convention space including a 11,000 square foot ballroom, a 25,000-square-foot luxurious spa, and nine restaurants, including one on the roof with views of the city and the harbor. However the newly revealed expansion plans added 72,000 square feet to the MGM Grand casino floor's 2nd level. The additional space doubled the number of slot machines and adds another 100 table games, which will make the Macau MGM the largest casino floor in the city!

The Grand Old Lady of Macau Gaming - Hotel Lisboa Macau

Gambling with its long history in Macau is a legalized entertainment. With swanky casinos dotted over the cityscape, Macau vies with Las Vegas and Nevada. Widely acclaimed as a perfect mix of traditional hospitality and modern facilities, Hotel Lisboa Macau is a well-known landmark. Located in the central business district, 15 minutes from the Macau International Airport and 5 minutes from Macau-Hong Kong Ferry Terminal, Hotel Lisboa's unrivalled central location offers total convenience for business travelers and holidaymakers alike.

Like Macau itself, the Lisboa's décor blends Chinese and Portuguese accents, heavily underscored by that old favorite of pirates: gold. The famed casino hotel Lisboa has years of local history and gaming adventure under its belt. The Lisboa Macau has close to 1,000 rooms and luxurious suites, designed for total relaxation. With its elegant decor, superb cuisine, exceptional wine list and impeccable service, Robuchon a Galera is potentially the leader of fine dining restaurants in the region. The Hotel Lisboa Casino is famous for its world-class gaming options, having been responsible for a good portion of the 2004 Macau casino revenue, which out-earned Las Vegas for the year. Baccarat, Blackjack, Boule, Fan Tan, Roulette are the usual games played along with the ubiquitous poker. Newcomers to the Macau casino market will definitely have to compete with Lisboa Hotel Macau.  The Lisboa's cabaret show, the famous Crazy Paris Show, is also a favorite Macau show.

Lisboa has created quite a reputation in history as Macau's largest casino with the widest variety of table games, with 146 gaming tables, 107 slots, and six restaurants. Lisboa Casino does not charge any entry fee and tipping too is not customary. However it should be noted the croupiers do keep 10% of the winning. You must be over 18years to get the admission.

The Venetian in China – the Italian luxury and Chinese mystique

Las Vegas Sands' second resort to open in Macau, called The Venetian, is the anchor of the much larger Cotai Strip mega-tourism development, an unparalleled master plan that is becoming the ''Las Vegas Strip'' of Asia. The Venetian Macao, opened on August 28, 2007, combines the glamour of Las Vegas with mystical Asian flair.  "Bringing the charm of Venice and the glamour of Las Vegas" to Macau, as its construction billboard declares, The Venetian Macao includes 3,000 luxury suites in a 32-story tower, creating the beauty of baroque Venice complete with canals, gondolas, singing gondoliers and other legendary Venetian icons.

At a time when economic and travel restrictions from mainland China are lifting the Venetian Macau resort has breathed new life in the casino tourism sector of Macau. Macau, which is within a 6-hour airline flight for half the world's population, is the only place gambling is legal in China. Business opportunities continue to expand in the area, the business market especially that of booming China, is expected to come along for the ride. According to Sheldon Adelson, the mastermind behind The Venetian Macau, "It's like a firecracker. They've lit the fuse, and it is ready to explode." Consequently, The Venetian Macau is not just another Macau luxury hotel.

The Venetian Macao boasts the world's biggest casino (some 600,000 square feet of gambling space, about five times the size of your state-of-the-art Vegas gaming floor), 3,000 hotel suites and acres of swimming pools, 850,000 square feet of shopping, a 15,000-seat showroom, and a 1.2-million-square-foot convention center. It also plans to house 15 fine dining restaurants.

Beyond that, Adelson has invested another $2 billion or so to put up hotel-mall-casino complexes that after opening alongside the Venetian around the end of 2007 function as satellite businesses. These Macau hotels are run by leading hotel operators, such as Four Seasons and Shangri-La, while Las Vegas Sands Inc. retains control of their showrooms and casinos.) And although it took at least 30 years for Vegas to become Vegas, Adelson figures it'll take about five for Cotai to become Asia's—and thus the world's—biggest gambling and entertainment Mecca.

Games among the Stars - The Galaxy Starworld Macau!

If you're feeling like a "star" in Macau and willing to show off some "lucky brilliance" to the world then The Galaxy Starworld Macau is the place to be seen at!

In 2002, a major monopoly on gambling in Macau was lifted, paving the way for foreign businesses and investors to try their luck at opening a casino or hotel on the Cotai Strip, which is being touted as the Las Vegas of Asia.

Gambling laws in Macau make almost every form of gambling legal. Along with racetrack gambling and popular Chinese gambling games, casinos featuring traditional western gambling games are also gaining steam in Macau.

The Galaxy Starworld is one of the latest additions to the Cotai Strip and the Macau hotel gambling scene.  The Galaxy Starworld is housed in the totally renovated Galaxy Waldo, a 33 story building with more than 550 rooms.  The Galaxy Starworld is located just east of the Wynn Macau, and has major plans for the gambling tables, hungry tiger machines (slots), and other types of gambling that is housed in its enormous casino.  Builders project that this Macau casino hotel features more than 300 gaming tables and more than 300 slot machines, among many other attractions.

Guests are also able to stay at this Macau hotel, of course, and the billion dollar project provides comfort and extreme elegance.  While many of the hotels in Macau look to attract foreign customers and travelers, many of the hotels in Macau are also looking to attract the wealthy Chinese businessmen.  In the past, hotels in Macau have offered a chance to get away from the bustle of China's larger cities and relax on an island paradise, that pull has only increase as the number and quality of casinos continues to increase.

Other hotels in Macau stand alongside the Galaxy Starworld to create a glitter of lights and fun along the 1.8 mile stretch that makes up the Cotai Strip.  Whether you come to Macau for business or pleasure, the Galaxy Starworld and the entire Cotai Strip look to bring fun and excitement to the beach in Macau.

Casino Mediterráneo Torrevieja – Elegance Revisited

Although
you will find several Casinos within the province of Alicante where you can play blackjack, roulette or on a variety of fruit machines and finding the casinos is easy as they tend to be on major roads; yet Casino Mediterraneo Torrevieja stands out with its emphasis on aesthetics and elegance.
There are 4 casinos in Alicante over quite a large distance, so try and chose the one closest to you. I would recommend going by taxi if you are considering drinking the most wonderful cocktails that are served at all of them, but if you insist on imagination fuelled by art consider Mediterraneo Torrevieja
casino's seaside terrace
fine dining restaurant cum bar.

The Casino Mediterraneo is situated in Torrevieja which is easily accessed from the A1 freeway. It is a reasonably new casino and hosts roulette, blackjack, poker, baccarat, the wheel of fortune and slot machines. The casino's 16,150 square foot gaming space features forty-six gaming machines and thirteen table games. The table games played here are mainly American Roulette and Blackjack. There are other coffee shops and restaurants like
the
Ibericos del Casino which also offers live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays. But it is the coffee shop El Faro which offers the exquisite Great International Buffet daily.

Access in most Spanish casinos requires (free) membership so do not forget your passport or you will not be allowed in. Moreover the minimum age required for entry is 18 years old and while the dress code is (generally) relaxed; those wearing shorts and a tee shirt will not be admitted. A fashionable playground by the sea with Europe's largest casino and top-rate golf courses Estoril has long welcomed international visitors. During World War II it acquired a glamorous reputation when Portugal's neutrality and mild weather attracted the rich and the famous, German and English spies, and European royals and aristocrats such as King Umberto II of Italy, Carol II of Romania, the Count of Paris, and Spain's Don Juan. Hollywood actor Orson Wells stayed at the town's legendary Hotel Palacio at the time, and was reportedly "stunned" by the number of kings at the hotel during his stay.

The town has since lost much of its status, but maintains a certain faded grandeur and is still a fashionable cosmopolitan playground with Europe's largest casino, tennis courts, some of Europe's finest golf courses, an automobile race track that has held Formula One Grand Prix races, and an attractive sandy beach. The picturesque beach of Tamariz has a number of bars and restaurants, and a castle overlooking it that is owned by the royal family of Monaco.

Behind it is the casino surrounded by attractive gardens with tall palm trees. Known to give out the biggest weekly prizes in Europe, it also presents top international shows. It was also the inspiration for Ian Fleming's James Bond and Casino Royale. The Hotel Palacio facing it appeared in one of James Bond's first films ("On Her Majesty's Secret Service") and served as a backdrop for Richard Wilson's novel, "A Small Death in Lisbon." A pleasant beachfront promenade links Estoril to attractive Cascais passing by beaches along the way, and frequent trains connect it to Lisbon.

The end of the day, and best to spend it at the gaming tables. The Estoril casino isn't Monaco - in fact the downstairs is much more Reno than Monte Carlo, but if you show your passport upstairs and part with a small entrance fee, you can enjoy the usual games in a civilized fashion. Medium to low table stakes mean that you can have a very pleasant evening without risking the family silver. I'm happy to report that I certainly enjoyed myself and won more than enough to pay for dinner and a celebratory bottle of champagne later.

The Estoril Casino is the largest casino in Europe. There is a great deal of entertainment here, including different types of gambling and nightly cabaret and music hall shows in a sophisticated atmosphere. Apart from the main activities, there is an art gallery specializing in modern painting and sculpture.

Featuring a spacious area for gambling tables (Roulette, Blackjack, Poker, Baccarat "Punto Bank" and the dice games French Roulette and "Cussec") spread over two floors, the Casino Lisboa offers a diverse range of gaming opportunities, whether in the informal and marvelous open space of the Mixed Hall [1st floor] or in the more intimate and reserved environment of the Traditional Games Hall [2nd floor]. This guide is very simple and easy to follow. It explains all the games you may find at your disposal in Casino Estoril so you can enjoy the most of our casino's unique environment. However, if you have any doubts please do not hesitate asking our staff at your disposal.

Casino Lisboa

Lisbon's casinos were never really its biggest attractions till the time the government thought of promoting gaming tourism in a big way. Since then it has taken baby steps towards growing into a fully fledged industry. Estoril was the first place chosen to be promoted as a gaming destination. When it showed signs of early success, the Portuguese government began making plans for further developing the vast potential of gaming tourism in Europe.
The younger sibling of Europe's biggest casino in close by Estoril pushed its doors wide open for the public in 2006 with a more or less unlike image. It was pegged as an amusement spot with gaming as a part in contrast to the idea of a normal casino, where the gaming forms the mainstay and the entertainment is a diversion. While Estoril Casino keeps its classic and little more glamorous ambiance, Lisbon's casino puts its money on the trendier generation with a low key architecture and a more modern day environment.
There are great shows on all days and very regularly you may find well known international crowd pullers such as "Stomp" that was in the midst of the names offered in the first year at the above 600-seat Oceans Auditorium along with a range of acts at the revolving central bar, Arena Lounge.
All in all there are four elegantly devised bars, three restaurants (counting the high-end Pragma), nearly 1000 slot machines, and 22 gaming tables which include everything from the classic American Roulette to Blackjack, Poker, and Baccarat; all allocated across three floors. The gaming bets belong to a very manageable range with high rollers being accommodated without low and midlevel punters feeling left out. The 1000 latest technology slot machines offer a chance to win some easy money to those who trust their luck more than in a little skill.
Gaming is open to the public every day afternoon from 3PM to 3AM and from 4PM to 4AM on Fridays, Saturdays, and on the day before a national holiday.

Bahamas Games

Are you interested in making a few thousand dollars in a single night, or dance the night away, or you just want to flaunt out your freshly obtained bronze tan? Bahamas has quite a few wonderful places to exactly that. As you probably have already heard, gambling is lawful in the Bahamas (and the gambling age is 18 and above). That is gambling is legal for all, except for the Bahamians. Bahamians who get caught gambling are subject to a monetary penalty the highest limit of which is $500. The odds are infinitely better for tourists: those who get caught gambling are honored with a complimentary drink. The Bahamas possesses three huge casinos: two on New Providence: one at Cable Beach and the other on Paradise Island, and the last one on Grand Bahamas in Lucaya. Another has just opened its doors. Each carry a wide assortment of games, including black-jack, baccarat, roulette, dice, slot machines, the wheel of fortune and of course the 'big six.' For those who are not interested in courting Lady Luck, the casinos offer shows and other entertainment, shopping and nightclubs even nature study opportunity.
Other than the casinos, there are hundreds of bars of every hue, shade and description, along with night clubs which offer everything from fun disco of the seventies to the hottest rave hits of the nineties, till the small hours of the morning. Sports betting is permitted on any sport (other than horse racing) as long as it takes place within or outside The Islands of the Bahamas -- however it lawfully cannot take place by phone or any other telecommunication device, or on behalf of another person. Despite the fact that it is against the law to gamble Bahamians do so (on the side) anyway. Playing the U.S. lottery, betting on football games, etc. is very common.
Persons Not Permitted To Gamble:
Anyone under 18 years of age
Residents or their dependents
Holders of work permits or their dependents
Nationals (they gamble illegally elsewhere)
Anyone gainfully employed in The Islands of the Bahamas
Persons who have applied for residency or work permits or their dependents
So now although there are still only 4 casinos open, things are about to change very soon with the Government policies changing.

A Gamble on Nostalgia

In 1907 a group of heroic aviators with the most enviable records to their name got together and established a club for those interested in serious gaming without the paraphernalia that come associated with other casinos. Situated in the heart of Paris, on the most beautiful avenue in the world, the Avenue des Champs-Elysees this club has exquisite service that starts right at the valet service at the gates and carries on through till the very end. The dealers and cashiers speak English so even foreign guests are made to feel very much at home here.
It is open daily 24 hours and the casino's gaming arena has twenty-nine table and poker games. The games played are Baccarat, Blackjack, and Stud Poker along with Rami/13 card rummy and tarot the classic French game. Occasionally Backgammon Tournaments are held and at other times professional tables can be furnished on request. The classic poker is played on ten tables here. There are weekly "pot-limit" tournaments; Omaha is played on Thursdays, Texas Hold'em on Sundays and a monthly tournament of "no-limit" Texas Hold'em is also organized. No free drinks are offered while playing because, this club fondly called ACF by regulars, does not believe in diluting the nature of the institution.
The property also has an excellent bar and restaurant. The restaurant is open round the clock and puts forward an assortment of cold cuts; however from midnight till dusk Chinese food can also be ordered even at the games rooms. From 7:30-11:00pm dinner is served where an appetizer, main course and dessert could set you back by 35euros. ACF is entirely non-smoking since the beginning of 2008. The club has tied up with 15 nearby hotels to help its patrons: from high-end Marriot (550 euro) to mid range Atala (156 euro) to Modern Elysees (51euros).
In the hundred years since its inception the club has not lost any values the founders had imbibed them with whether it was elegance, conviviality or sophistication.

Roman Aristocracy

In my long association with gaming and places related to it I’ve found that places where the high rollers actually flock to are not only those that have other super luxurious attractions in the form of entertainment, fitness and health, high-end shopping and artistic pursuits but those that can combine all of these in a seamless package of opulent grandeur sophisticated glamour. That is exactly the bill that Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel & Casino fits like a hand in the glove.
Promoted as the Club Where the World Goes to Play, you will get here more than 129,000 sq. feet of casino area. The Roman Empire theme of the rest of the hotel is carried onto the casino as well.
Modern “gladiators” fight for high stakes in table games, poker, and keno and of course, the ubiquitous slot machines. Caesars Palace is a latter-day Roman Empire that will amaze you with incomparable exhilaration and test all your skills with games of chance such as blackjack, roulette, baccarat, craps, mini-baccarat,
Spanish 21, pai gow and pai gow poker. Both the recreational player and the experienced veteran enjoy the excitement of the 8.500-square-foot Poker Room. The thrill of Keno lay in the thousands of likely number combinations that come up in each game. Keno is fun and popular because it’s easy to play! The stirring worlds of horse racing and sporting events at the Race & Sports Book, where you can wager on sporting events while following the action live from fields around the country is available at this casino. Caesars Palace is supposed to be the location of more million-dollar plus slot machine jackpots than any casino in the world. And while you play you can earn complimentary dollars, complimentary stays, get invited to special events and much more, if you can use your total rewards card!

The India Connection

Indians by tradition are a gambling nation since time immemorial, its national epics and mythology stand testimony to innumerable instances of heroes and villains settling scores over a hand of “Aksha” or “Pasha”. The gambling instruments were even worshipped as a lesser god. But since the British colonialism it has been outlawed in this country as it is believed to be an addiction which opens the doors to hell. This has led Indians to flock to the neighboring country of Nepal which has legal casinos.
But now the Goa government has woken up to the possibilities of the gaming tourism and provided license to several offshore casinos on barges and at least one Goa five star hotel the Leela Palace Kempinski Goa has a gaming club for its patrons aptly named the Las Vegas.
MS Caravela is a cruise ship in Panjim, Goa and is open every day 5:30pm to 6am. The cruise ship's gaming arena carries eight gaming machines and twelve table games. There are four tables of American Roulette and Blackjack each and 2 tables each of Pontoon and Stud Poker. The betting limits are INR 100.00 to INR 10,000.00; which is apparently an attempt to discourage casual punters and welcome foreign high-rollers. Rummy, which locally goes by the name of Paplu, is also played here. The eight electronic slot machines also allow a lot of gaming excitement. Cover charges are steep at Rs. 1,600 for the morning sightseeing trip (10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.), Rs. 3,000 for the sunset cruise (5.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.), and Rs. 4,000 for the dinner hangout (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) but as always a rare experience comes at a pinch to the pocket. However most gamblers in India wouldn’t even feel the bite due to their deep pockets.

Casino Glamour II

The other notable movies were almost all made in the 1990’s. These glamorize the casino environment but also show the seamier side to casino management and its direct links with crime and criminal activities.

Honeymoon in Vegas (1992)
Bridegroom (Nicolas Cage) decides to marry (Sarah Jessica Parker); but he loses her in a wicked poker game to a gambling pro (James Caan). The remainder of the film shows his hysterical effort to get his fiancé back. The background is set in Vegas during an Elvis-impersonator convention.

Indecent Proposal (1993)
This film's thrilling plot finds a pretty wife (Demi Moore) asked for sex by a rich bachelor (Robert Redford), for which the latter proposes to pay a cool million bucks to her and her loser husband (Woody Harrelson). The two take up Redford's offer only to find their marriage ruined.

Maverick (1994)
Mel Gibson stars as card-sharping gunslinger Brett Maverick, who joins hands with scheming gambler Annabelle Bransford (Jodie Foster) and a marshal going by the name of Zane Cooper (James Garner) on his way to the St. Louis World Series of poker . Maverick's trying to get the $5,000 required to be a part of the high-stakes contest.

Casino (1995)
This is the epic story about the rise and fall of gangster Sam "Ace" Rothstein (De Niro). Through Rothstein, the movie recounts the story of how the Mafia seized, and ultimately lost control of, Las Vegas gambling. The first hour is almost like a documentary, detailing the inner wheels of Vegas casinos. Sharon Stone puts in the stand out performance as the voracious Ginger, the glitzy call girl turned Rothstein's wife. Other stars include Joe Pesci and James Woods.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1999)
Starring Jason Fleming, Dexter Fletcher, Nick Moran, Jason Statham, Steven Mackintosh the film is about a group of cockney boys Tom, Soap, Eddie, and Bacon in a bind; they owe sleazy criminal and porn mafia"Hatchet" Harry a sizable amount of cash after Eddie loses half a million in a one sided game of poker.

Ocean's 11 (2001)
Fresh out of jail, Danny Ocean (George Clooney) organizes a plot to steal $163 million from the apparently unbreakable vault of Las Vegas's Bellagio casino, not just for the loot but to win his ex-wife (Julia Roberts) back from the casino's merciless owner (Andy Garcia). Oceans’ team includes Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and Carl Reiner. It was earlier made with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Angie Dickinson as the members of the “Rat Pack”.

Casino Glamour

Casinos have often inspired movie makers with their larger than life settings and sometimes the movies have also influenced the casino themes with their glamour. This symbiotic relationship has often been celebrated in a lot of movies and this is a look back in wonder!
Starting almost with the development of commercial cinema and then flourishing with the rise of Hollywood casinos have played their parts as sometimes the backdrop and at other times the centerpiece of the narratives.।

Casino Royale (1954)
This movie made for live TV was the first original James Bond movie and the first James Bond was not Sean Connery as is widely believed but Barry Nelson. This movie where Bond actually earns his “00” status has been remade in 2006 with Daniel Craig as a very gritty and believable secret agent. "M", head of the British Secret Service, sends 007 to Montenegro to face Le Chiffre, a ruthless financier under threat from his terrorist clientele, who is attempting to restore his funds in a high-stakes poker game at the Casino Royale. However another movie version made with Peter Sellers in the lead in 1967 also exists.

Diamonds are Forever (1965)
Sean Connery plays James Bond in Diamonds Are Forever. This is a spy movie with a comic book feel, set in Las Vegas.

Heat (1973)
An L.A. cop (Al Pacino) becomes fixated on a deadly thief (Robert Di Nero) and his crew (Val Kilmer & Jon Voight) who are taking Los Angeles to the cleaners. A movie where the connection between gambling, glamour and crime are more explicit.

The Color of Money (1986)
In this sequel to "The Hustler" the old wise former hustler Paul Newman chooses to take Young Turk Tom Cruise and his sexy, but suspect girlfriend (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) on the road to take advantage of all pool table challengers.

All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989)
This movie starring Loni Anderson, Judith Barsi, Kelly Briley, Earleen Carey, Dom DeLuise,is a musical animation that is built on the fight between good and bad and of the ideas of camaraderie.

The One-armed Bandits

What is it exactly about Vegas that transform even the very prosaic among us into adventurers? Is it the ambience, the magical background, the glitz and the glamour? Or is it the smell of win in the air, the fantasy of winning something with almost nothing?
I guess, as always, the truth lies somewhere in between. But not all who visit these mesmerizing behemoths of entertainment are skilled punters who can hope to have a certain amount of skill helping their luck on the way to hard cash. So why and how do these people get attracted to the magic that lies in this desert wilderness of Nevada, USA?
Well to the young at heart and not so high rollers the draw lies in the Slot machines. These casino-gambling machines with three or more reels which spin when a button is pushed to come to stop at various combinations of graphics symbolizing events in the hand are extremely popular with all but the seasoned, skilled poker player. In other words the machine pays off founded on patterns of icons noticeable on the front of the machine when it stops. Originally slots are also called as one-armed bandits because slot machines were originally run by a lever on the side of the machine (the one arm) instead of a button on the front panel, and because of their ability to gobble up your last penny. Many modern machines still have a legacy lever in addition to the button just for a hint of nostalgia.
Today although many variations has appeared in these machines yet the basic principle remains the same where anybody with just luck on their side can win a lot of money without any need of any show of skill whatsoever. Just keep pulling the lever or pushing the button and you just might beat the One-armed Bandits.

How to play poker

Poker is a card game with numerous variants; most of them are dealt with a single deck of 52 playing cards. It is generally played for money (frequently in the way of "chips") but may also be played for scoring tokens. Poker is usually played by a set of about two to ten players; it cannot be played alone. Although there are lots of kinds of poker, but all of them follow the same basic rules.
No House Advantage
Poker does not allow any "house advantage", though most other gambling card games played for money do. If the cards are mixed up and dealt justly, all players at the table have equal statistical probability of winning more than all other players. This is exactly opposite to a conventional gambling card game like Blackjack, where the person who is the "dealer" has a huge statistical advantage.
Skill versus Luck
Players have a lot of chances during the game to make choices which shape the result of the hand being played. The ability of any single player has a significant impact in shaping the general result for a player because accurate decisions made at the proper times can boost a player's winnings at the game and reduce their losses. While luck plays a hand in dealing of the individual cards to the player (and to the other players), ultimately, luck will peter to average for all players - however each player's ability in playing the different hands they have been dealt with will decide their overall net earnings. The more number of decisions a player must make to win some particular kind of poker, and the additional information accessible to help in making those assessments, the more that any individual player's skill will influence their earnings. More than all other varieties of gambling card game, Poker, offer a huge range of decisions for a player to take, and therefore a much higher likelihood that an able player will win.

Casinos of Nepal

Through the decades, Kathmandu has seen many alterations; in trends and people. However, one thing has always been in vogue that of South Asians coming to Kathmandu to play in the Casinos of Nepal. The four Casinos in Kathmandu situated inside the city’s top hotels provide 24 hours of round-the-clock fun and games like roulette, flush, baccarat, poker, pontoon, blackjack and other card games and slot machines. All the games are played with chips which are bought with US dollars or Indian rupees. You'll get free food and even disco if you put some lucre on the tables. Nepali's are officially forbidden from entering in Casinos.
Gambling has always been a part of South Asian culture. When you look at ancient paintings and text, you see kings and their women playing dice. When you look at Holy Scriptures, you read of gods and sages gambling. The attractions of the casinos of Nepal are round the clock play, multilingual service staff, food and beverages and even smoking materials provided to all players, polite dealers provide training for beginners or to introduce new games, and free transportation service.
Since opening in 1992, Casino Anna became the most patronized of all casinos in Nepal. Situated in Kathmandu's most popular tourist center, Durbar Marg, it allows you to be in the heart of the action. Travel agencies, hotels, banks, airlines, shops and other requirements are located next door.
Although located ideally for easy airport access, Casino Everest lies in the placid area of Baneswor. The adjacent towns of Bhaktapur, Patan, Katmandu and the Temple of Pashupatinath offer possibility of quick excursions for the visitor.
Casino Nepal, the oldest casino in Nepal, is also the most frequented casino in the Valley. The other casinos have followed in its footsteps as it sets the trend for different games and tournaments.
Casino Royale, located in a building that is part of a 125-year-old Rana Palace. It is the pride of the Rana kings who built many fantastic palaces and parks in Nepal. Most of the mirrors and chandeliers were brought abroad from Europe and brought into mountainous Nepal on the backs of humans.
